Twenty six years ago two strangers met, fell in love at first sight, got engaged within a month and married within a year.
We lived our lives.
Served as teachers for one another, learned hard lessons, learned easier ones, created and expressed, rose and fell, served in community, cared for others, walked with our parents to their deaths.
We lived our lives.
Four years ago during pandemic isolation, while thousands of miles apart, caregiving for our dying mothers in two different states, my spouse awakened to a deeply suppressed awareness of gender dysphoria.
Three new journeys began. He became she. I became ally and advocate. And we became a new kind of we.
So that we could live our lives.
You know, the thing about love is that it knows no bounds. Our souls understand this well. It’s the human part that struggles with the vast spaciousness of that great source of light. The place where endless possibility resides and waits for us…to remember.
Michelle Wright of WTAE, the ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, invited us to share our story with her. That conversation airs Sunday 11/10/24 at 11:30AM on WTAE’s program “4 the Record.” With hope it will be archived for replay down the way. A deep bow to Michelle and to all at WTAE for their large and kind hearts. May we all shine our light and lead with love.
